This is 47
I just recently had a birthday and I try to make it last at least a week...or month! :) Haha!
The last 2 years have been really different as I usually spent part of my birthday teaching and celebrating at the lake (and surprise party's were had thanks to friends like Sherry & Terrie! :).

Something I have learned is that our biological and chronological aging are two very different things! Chronological age is how many years we have been on the planet. Biological age is how old our body actually is which is based on many factors that we can control.

We can be 50 years old but be 70 in our movement and function in the body. Or it can go the other way...we can be 50 but on the inside we are 35!

What age do you feel you are at biologically right now?

Some ways that help our biological age are:

Meditation

Meditation increases the length of our telomeres.

Telomeres get shorter each time a cell copies itself, but the important DNA stays intact. Eventually, telomeres get too short to do their job, causing our cells to age and stop functioning properly. Therefore, telomeres act as the aging clock in every cell. Meditation slows this clock down!

Functional & Intentional Movement

It is important to use exercises to build strength in muscles and bones so your structure stays strong and stable. Also using mobility exercises for each joint is crucial so they stay supple and moving well. With intentional movement like yoga, the awareness of the body is increased and the mind has a place to focus. The more aware we are of our body the better we can determine if daily movement patterns are supporting us or causing issues. And single pointed focus like following the breath while you move is good for the brain. It decreases the chance that our mind will be able to cause a stress response in the body which can come from the many thoughts we have each day. And when we do go into a stress response the brain shuts down which makes it harder to remember things.

Supplementation

It’s important to supplement the things that we lose with age (or that our body doesn’t make on it’s own). Things like collagen decrease as we age but when supplemented, can help support sore joints, decrease pain, increase hair growth and support our skin. Check out this video on the liquid collagen that I take and if you need any more information on how to order and receive a discount please let me know!:

The Gathering: Words, Wisdom & Wellness Book Club

To create more connection, conversation and to continue to learn, I am starting a book club! These are the first 2 books some of us have been thinking about!
We will be starting with The Untethered Soul.

We will take a couple of months to read each book.
We will start Sunday June 6 @10am over zoom and do introductions, say hello and go over some leading questions for the book that we can answer and then chat about when we meet. And meet every second week to catch up.

I am hoping once gathering is permitted we can connect in person and turn this into some good campfire conversations!!

Please send me a note if you are interested in one of our final 3 spots!
