This is Fall! Yoga, Retreats, Workshops & more!πŸ‚πŸƒπŸ˜πŸ‘Š

Hello All! Happy soon to be fall!

I just wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who joined us this summer! And thank you to Jasmin and Lesya for helping to teach classes and Lesya for many awesome paddleboard classes!

Some thoughts I wanted to share with you as we head into fall...

As I navigate grief in my life right now, I am reminded that I need to let myself feel anything that comes up as I travel this path. I continue to use all of the tools I have and am constantly learning more ways to take care of this amazing earth suit I have been given. It truly is a gift and not one I will compromise...but which can easily happen if I don't pay attention to what my emotions are needing to express.

This week, I caught myself apologizing for crying all of a sudden (movies and music are a great way to open the floodgates!). I had full support from my partner as I always do. I took a moment and said I don't know why I said sorry? I then said I am not sorry for my release!... and then took a moment to figure out where it was coming from and discovered its root..

I will now remember to not apologize for the beautiful rawness and love that comes through tears.

I have realized that I must go through all of the emotions and physically use my body to move through and use it to release what I am feeling. Certain physical movement allows for release of sadness, trauma and grief. This is why yoga is so important to me.

If we do not listen to our emotions, our body and mind are effected in so many ways. Emotions are powerful transformers and can work to our advantage. But if not dealt with, left unchecked, not felt and just ignored, the body will have no choice but to adapt to what it is being given. The story below is so powerful and is proof that we must listen to our heart. Our feelings/emotions are our guide from our heart...

Broken Heart Syndrome

When Carrie Fisher died in late 2016, the film world went into collective mourning. The grief was compounded the next day when her mother, Debbie Reynolds, also died suddenly. For many, it was a simple fact that Ms. Reynolds died of a broken heart β€” a sad but understandable event in the face of such tragedy.

We’ve all heard stories of elderly couples dying within days of each other. What is broken heart syndrome? Is it real? And how does it differ from a heart attack? Broken heart syndrome, called takotsubo cardiomyopathy, can strike even a healthy person.

It was named "takotsubo" cardiomyopathy because during the acute phase of the syndrome, the left ventricle bulges and takes on a balloon shape. This shape is similar in appearance to the Japanese fisherman's tako-tsubo, meaning an octopus trap.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy starts abruptly and unpredictably, with symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath and fainting.

It is brought on by an intense emotional experience, like the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, bankruptcy, natural disaster, serious accident, or romantic rejection and is most often seen in women between the ages of 61 and 76 years. Broken heart syndrome may be misdiagnosed as a heart attack because the symptoms and test results are similar. But, unlike a heart attack, there is no evidence of blocked heart arteries in broken heart syndrome. In broken heart syndrome, there is temporary disruption of the heart’s normal pumping action in the left ventricle as a result of a surge of stress hormones. With immediate medical intervention, broken heart syndrome is treatable, and full recovery can occur without long-term damage. However, it can be deadly if ignored.

Can a broken heart be prevented? Since life experiences can precipitate this condition, prevention focuses on having on-going stress management strategies that help manage stress hormones. Exercising, eating healthy, avoiding excessive alcohol, taking quality nutritional supplements, getting adequate sleep, and maintaining solid friendships can help deter the heart-breaking effects of life’s unexpected occurrences. Embracing hope may be difficult at these times, but bear in mind that hope is β€œthe belief that sadness can eventually evaporate.”

Sending love and light to all of you and your beautiful hearts.

Namaste,

Janelle

No class Sept 14
Sept 28 class will run at 11:30am
No class Oct 19
All other Saturday classes run at the normal 10:45am class time.

The intention of this class is to provide a safe space for students to let go of tension and cultivate peace and balance. Poses will be held between 3-5minutes, and the body will be supported by props to allow the nervous system to thoroughly unwind. There will be use of essential oils that are specifically chosen for their calming, grounding & stress-relieving properties. The human body was not designed to handle being in a state of fight or flight constantly. In order to help the body and mind optimally deal with the challenges of daily life, it is crucial that we cultivate stillness and silence to switch into the parasympathetic nervous system which can give your body time to rest and your mind the space to unwind and let go.
